Flanked by a large number of supporters, the party’s chief ministerial candidate V.K. Malhotra was the centre of attention.

And it seemed that Malhotra was following his astrologer’s instructions when he waited for the clock to strike exact 12.25 p.m. before signing and submitting his nomination papers from the Greater Kailash constituency.

Malhotra was accompanied by senior BJP leaders Arun Jaitely and Sushma Swaraj and Akali Dal chief Parkash Singh Badal and INLD leader Om Prakash Chautala.

His son Ajay Malhotra, who was present alongside his father at the time of filing of papers, said the family had performed a havan early in the morning.

“It is a ritual in the family. Before starting anything big we perform havan to seek the blessings of the almighty,” said Ajay Malhotra.

The supporters of Malhotra were confident that the BJP would get two-third majority in the coming Delhi Assembly elections.

Sufi singer Hansraj Hans was also present on the occasion to lend his support to Malhotra. He even sang a couple of songs, while Malhotra filed his nomination papers.

An official from the Delhi Election Office said a total of 96 nominations were filed on Saturday. Jagdish Mukhi was another BJP candidate who enjoyed a lot of fan following while filing his nomination papers from the DC office at Ram Pura.

“We are going to win by a clean majority,” said a confident Mukhi amidst claps and cheers of his supporters.

In all this, security personnel had a tough time in reigning in the euphoric crowed. The number of persons accompanying a candidate to file the papers far exceeded the permissible limit, but it was difficult to control the enthusiastic supporters.
