Delhi government’s ambitious plan to provide WiFi connectivity — high-speed wireless Internet connectivity— at selected locations in the Capital has hit a roadblock.

Senior Delhi government officials said Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL), the agency that had won the bid to provide WiFi connectivity ahead of the Commonwealth Games, has backed out.
“MTNL has backed out from the project citing security reasons. We had no choice but to drop the plan,” Delhi Chief Secretary Rakesh Mehta said.
The move, said a senior Delhi government official, has come after it was felt WiFi was not a foolproof mechanism in view of militants using it extensively.
“If security was the concern, even the re-bidding for the project would not help,” Mehta added.
