A 21-year-old woman had resisted some men who were molesting her in a crowded Blueline bus in Seelampur area in northeast Delhi on Saturday.

Police said the victim was returning home from work around 7.30 p.m. when four men started misbehaving with her.

The victim had boarded the bus plying between Nehru Place and Nand Nagri from Krishna Nagar bus stand in East Delhi. The four men, who were in their mid 20s, had boarded the bus from Jaffrabad.

A police officer, who didn’t give his name, as he is not authorized to speak to media, said, “Once inside the bus, one of them sat behind the woman and the others stood around her. They started passing obscene remarks and also molested her. She objected to this and raised an alarm. One of the them then attacked her with a knife.”

The officer said one of the men took out a button-actuated knife and attacked her several times on her left cheek. They even took away her bag and mobile phone.

After attacking the girl, the accused threatened the driver to stop the bus. They got off the bus and fled.

Police said after the accused had left, one of the passengers called the police control room (PCR). She was rushed to Guru Tegh Bahadur Hospital where her condition is said to be stable. She has reportedly received several stitches on her cheeks.

Police said a case has been registered against unknown assailants at Seelampur Police Station. None of the assailants have been tracked or arrested.

Police said they were preparing sketches of the accused with the help of the account given by the victim, the bus conductor and the driver.
