There is talk within BJP circles that former Karnataka chief minister BS Yeddyurappa — who left the BJP in a huff months after losing his post after corruption charges aginst him — is sending feelers for a merger with the BJP.

Party sources said some BJP leaders from Karnataka are also in touch with the central leadership in Delhi pitching for his return, arguing that it would help the party contain electoral damage. A merger would suit Yeddyurappa too as his party can’t do much alone. “We are willing to merge, but the central leadership has to take a call as to what role is to be given to him,” a Yeddyurappa loyalist said.

The party would, however, have to factor in LK Advani and Ananth Kumar’s known opposition to Yeddyurappa.
