With Subhash Chandra, chairman of Zee News Limited, not turning up to join investigation into the alleged extortion bid case filed by Jindal Steel Private Ltd (JSPL) even after being served three notices in the past five days, the Delhi Police are considering the option of moving court, sources said.
Sources in the Delhi Police said though the Zee News boss was served a notice on Wednesday, Chandra did not turn up on Thursday to record his statement and clarify his role in the entire episode.
Asked whether investigators would now approach the court seeking issuance of warrant, a senior police officer said that all options are open with them and they will take a decision when the need arises.
On Thursday at around 3.30 pm, four officers from inter state cell (ISC) of the crime branch reached the headquarters of Zee News and served three separate notices to the company.
Confirming the information, Zee News lawyer Rebecca John said through one of the notices, police have asked Zee group chairman Subhash Chandra to join investigation at 4.30pm, merely one hour after the notice was served.
“Since it was not possible to join the probe at such a short notice, we have requested the investigators to give us some time,” said John. Asked what if police approaches the court seeking issuance of a warrant against Chandra, John said, “That situation won’t come. Chandra will join the probe soon.”
Meanwhile, investigators are likely to seek extension in remand of Sudhir Chaudhary and Ahluwalia when they will be produced before the court on Friday. They were sent to two days police custody on Wednesday. It was alleged thatthe Zee editors demanded R100 crore for not airing news about JSPL’s alleged role in coal allocation scam.
