In 2016, 10 candidates were contesting for Eranad assembly constituency seat. Eranad was one of 18 seats won by the Independent. Indian Union Muslim League's P.K Basheer won the election by defeating independent candidate Abdurahiman by a margin of 12,893 votes.
The top two candidates split 92.5% of votes between them. Indian Union Muslim League's P.K Basheer got a total of 69,048 votes, while independent candidate Abdurahiman secured 56,155 votes. Bharatiya Janta Party's candidate K P Baburaj Master Thundathil secured 6,055 votes to finish at the third place. The top three parties got 51.0%, 41.5% and 4.5% respectively.
In Kerala Assembly election 2011, Muslim League Kerala State Committee's P.K.Basheer beat independent candidate Anver.P.V by 11,246 votes.
