Good things come to those who wait. And actor Amitabh Bachchan had to do quite a lot of it while getting into ‘the skin’ of his character Auro in the film, Paa.

“It took about five-and-a-half hours to get the make-up on, after which I would shoot for seven hours. During that, I had to be stationary — I couldn’t eat, drink or speak. And then, it took two hours to take it all off. It had to be done very carefully, otherwise the real skin might peel off,” Bachchan says.

Paa’s largest budget was for make-up. Christian Kifle, an Oscar-winning make-up artist from Hollywood, came here for 2-4 major sittings with me to get the look right. We shot in Malaysia and England because we wanted to maintain secrecy around the look of Auro,” he adds.
