What’s a better option for a college girl — to spend three years in an all-girls’ college, without a single boy in the classroom? Or be in a co-ed college with boys always around you? HT City asked some Delhi girls which choice is more exciting.

“You can have fun in a girlie gang, too,” says Kinni Chowdhry, a 2nd year student of the all girls’ Kalindi College. “But the problem is that girls are bitchy and jealous, most of the times, whereas boys are cool and relaxed. So being around so many of your own sex all the time can be quite a task.”

Then there are also questions like wheher a girl can be a girl’s best buddy? “If it’s an all girls’ group, there can never be unity,” declares Kriti Dargan, a student of Motilal Nehru College, a co-ed college in South Campus. “The bonding that girls set with boys is stronger and the friendship is more enduring than it is with girls.”

The freedom to “wear anything” is another plus point of a girls” college. “In my college, I can wear shorts, skirts and not care if the strap of my undergarment is showing because there are no boys around,” says Neha Kapoor, a Miranda House student. “Studying in an all girls’ campus, however, doesn’t mean that you never interact with the opposite sex. You do… during fests, seminars and theatre activities etc. So actually if you are studying in an all-female college, you get the best of both the worlds, more or less.” Adds Sandhya Nagar, of Gargi College, “Also, the campus remains a pretty slang and abuse-free zone.”
