Big B praises Anil Kapoor

Actor Anil Kapoor receives congratulatory letter from Amitabh Bachchan for his outing in US TV series, 24. It’s the third time veteran actor has showered him with praise, after Eeshwar and Trimurti.

Remember Trimurti? Subhash Ghai’s 1995 film is often billed as a huge dud, but Anil Kapoor received “very special” appreciation for it from Amitabh Bachchan. “It was a great moment. Mr Bachchan wrote to me that in a pile of rubbish, I stood out,” laughs Kapoor. “I still have that letter with me. I can never part with it.”

In fact, Kapoor remembers all the ‘special words’ from Mr Bachchan. “I have the highest regard for him. He has written to me only thrice on my performances,” he says. “The first time, I remember he had praised me a lot for my turn in Eeshwar, back in 1989. And I remember being absolutely ecstatic about it.”

Six years later, Kapoor got a letter from Big B again for Trimurti. And now, he recently received another note from Bachchan for his much-acclaimed performance in the US TV series, 24. “When you receive appreciation from a person like Mr Bachchan, you know you are on the right track,” he says.

Kapoor, who has acted with the senior actor in Honey Irani’s 2003 film Armaan, is waiting for the next opportunity to share screen space with him. “It’s always a great honour to stand in the same frame as him,” says Kapoor. In fact, the two actors were supposed to star together in Rajkumar Santoshi’s Power.

Besides acting assignments, Kapoor has been in the news about producing the Hindi remake of Lindsay Lohan-starrer Hollywood flick, Freaky Friday. While his daughter Sonam Kapoor is supposed to star in the film, Madhuri Dixit’s name was doing the rounds for the mother’s role. “But nothing is finalised yet, including Madhuri,” says Kapoor, who has worked with Madhuri in several films. “I will be meeting her soon. She is a friend. But I don’t know whether she will accept the film or not,” says the actor, who recently returned from the US.
