Want to explore the city on two wheels and looking for some fun company? Get ready to zip through the city’s unknown corners over a breakfast date with the Delhi Bikers, this winter.

Started by Joshua John, a freelance artist in the Capital, in November 2009, the group — Delhi Bikers Breakfast Run — essentially explores newer and exciting breakfast destinations, within 100 kilometres of the city. “There are a lot of biking groups in the city but they are open only to members who have high-end bikes such as an Enfield or a Harley Davidson. I felt the need for a group where anybody with a a Honda, Hayabusa or even a Luna can join in. The zeal to explore and a healthy appetite is however important to be our group,” says John.

The group is usually active during the winter months, but responding to the growing demand, recently, the Monsoon Ride was launched in July followed by the Pre-Winter ride in September. Currently 150 members comprising professional bikers and amateurs from different professions tour together.

The members gather at South-extension II for NH-8, or the petrol pump under the Ashram flyover for NH-2 at 6am and are back by 12 noon. Sultanpur Bird Sanctuary in Gurgaon, Dabchick in Hodal, Murthal on NH 1, Meerut and Badkhal Lake are some of their recently-toured spots. “We make sure that the place serves a hygienic breakfast for at least 100 people, and the cost per person is less than Rs 200,” says Sohrab Khilrey, the organiser.

“The crisp mornings, nearly empty roads and sumptuous food makes it so exciting that I have become a regular biker,” says Avinash Mohan, a member of the group since 2009. If you too want to join the fun, send a request on the group’s Facebook page and wait for the next event.
