The arrest of actor Aditya Pancholi’s son Sooraj Pancholi, following the suicide of his ex-girlfriend actor Jiah Khan, has got Bollywood debating on whether it is fair to call a suicide resulting from a lovers’ tiff as abetment. Sooraj was arrested after Jiah’s mother handed a six-page letter, allegedly written by Jiah, in which she blames her boyfriend for abuse.

Filmmaker Sanjay Gupta, who is Aditya’s friend says, “One child has already gone. Now why are we killing the other child with this media trial? One needs to understand that Sooraj is a young boy and the stigma attached to this controversy is affecting his life both personally and professionally.” Filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt says, “During a breakup, it is natural to feel depressed, but one needs to be strong and rational.”

Adds filmmaker Subhash Ghai, “Generally, you are innocent until proven guilty but in Sooraj’s case he has to prove his innocence.” Social media users feel it is unfair to blame Sooraj for the suicide. “I’m sorry for Sooraj Pancholi. Jiah couldn’t deal with her own problems, She could’ve walked out instead of just blaming him,” tweeted Mumbaimuggle, a user.
