Photographs from actor Freida Pinto’s 30th birthday in October showed her partying with aspiring actor Sid Mallya. Soon after, rumours of something brewing between the two started doing the rounds. But the actor slams the reports, branding them baseless, and confirms that she is still in a relationship with her Slumdog Millionaire (2008) co-star, Dev Patel.
“I have always said that Dev and I are soulmates; nothing changes that,” says Frieda.
Giving details of her birthday, which was reportedly celebrated at a strip club in Los Angeles (USA), and led to speculation about her relationship status, the 30-year-old reveals, “It was a bunch of young people having fun. That’s it. There was nothing more to it. Sid happened to be in Los Angeles, and we are part of the same friends circle. I don’t even know how these rumours even started.”
However, Freida minces no words while blaming the Indian media for giving this spin to the story. “Let me tell you, these stories were only started by the Indian media and not anyone else. The reports which were carried internationally were that I was drunk. Which I feel was fine as, once in a while, everyone should be able to let their hair down and have some fun,” she says.
Meanwhile, the actor, who has been dating Dev for the past six years, also believes in keeping details about her personal life under wraps. “If you start putting nuggets of your personal life out there, you will be so empty and hollow that you will have nothing to hold on to. I do believe that one’s personal life needs to be protected with fierceness. I have never spoken about my personal life. Initially, Dev and I never even spoke about us dating, and the media tried to get it out of us. We were like ‘We like this game, let them keep guessing’,” she says.
