Commercial Holi bashes are limited this year, as most events will be taking place at private parties in societies and bungalows.
HT Café contacted bars and clubs across the city such as Indigo, Escobar, and Aer, and the only ones holding an event were the Blue Frog and Hawaiian Shack.
Unholi
Explains Dilip Joshi, director of Bling, "Most clubs don't celebrate Holi because the colours will spoil the décor and furniture. They might just play a few Holi tracks."
Vikram Metha, director of Red Om Entertainment, who holds events for Prive, adds: "Clubs don’t celebrate Holi as people would have been out all day and are tired by the evening. I tried having a party before but people were too bhang-ed out. People stay out of clubs, preferring different private parties."
Says Mikhiel Pinto, spokesman for Indigo and Tote: "People are more into the outdoors party scene than the bar scene. There is also a lot of bhang around and it's a rather intoxicating scenario, suited to a more casual bar."
However the Blue Frog is going against the grain to host a pre-Holi Full Moon Party. Jehan Johar, who manages the music programming, is convinced the party will be a hit as trance DJ Goa Gil is popular as one of the first DJs to play at the Goa full moon parties in the '80s.
"People can party late on Sunday as Monday is a holiday. Every year, Holi happens on the full moon. That's Gil's type of music so we're calling it a pre-Holi Full Moon Party," he says.
Commercial Holi parties
Hawaiian Shack’s Holi party is on Monday. People can play Holi with coloured rose petals, Holi Bollywood songs and bhang shots. Champagne bottles will be given away. Couples entry is free. Stags pay Rs 400 cover.
EsselWorld and Water Kingdom in Gorai are holding a Monday bash called Holi hai, Ranghol Nahi. Sonu Kakkar who sang the title track of Blue, singer Harshi and DJ Ryan Beck will perform. At Esselworld, guests will be take part in a raindance and watch a Holi parade. No colours allowed. Traditional delicacies like jalebi and thandai will be offered. Entry is Rs 599 for adults and Rs 499 for children. Call 6528 0305.
The Blue Frog’s Pre Holi Full Moon Party will feature DJ Goa Gil from 7pm to 1.30am on Sunday. Call: 61586158.
