Another week.. same story. The film industry is in the red. Three diverse genres opened this Friday – Guddu Dhanoa’s Big Brother, Vikram Bhatt’s Life Mein Kabhie Kabhiee and Sagar Ballary’s Bheja Fry. But none managed to pull the audience to the auditoria, despite school and college vacations.
To begin with, not much was expected from Dhanoa’s Big Brother.. the project took years to finish. Though the response across the country was far below average, it opened well in the North, especially Punjab.
Here, it opened with about 75 per cent collections. The film is expected to do average business in the Northern belt.
With Life Mein Kabhie Kabhiee, Vikram Bhatt gave his ninth flop in a row. The opening response was very poor. Tradewallas say they see no hope of the film’s collections picking up once the weekend is over.
The third release of the week, Bheja Fry, was no exception. Although the film was expected to make a decent opening at least in multiplexes, it didn’t.
The results last week’s releases – Suneel Darshan’s Shakalaaka Boom Boom and Jag Mundhra’s Provoked are out – they have been declared flops. In Mumbai, Shakalaaka Boom Boom could only register 30 per cent collections, in Delhi, approximately 25 per cent. On the other hand, Provoked registered only 30 per cent in Mumbai.
Vipul Amritlal Shah’s Namastey London is still doing well in most of the centres. In its third week, the film has averaged a 50 per cent collections. Tradewallas say that the film has grossed Rs 80 crore across the world. Mira Nair’s The Namesake is also holding its ground well in various multiplexes.
