India is surely in vogue among Hollywood glitterati. Actor Ed Harris is the latest to fall in love with the country. In fact, Harris, who shot a part of his new film The Way Back in Darjeeling, wants to bring his 18-year-old daughter Lily Dolores Harris for a vacation to India.
“I would love to visit India again. For the film, we shot only in Darjeeling, so I didn’t get to see other beautiful places in India. But I’d love to bring my daughter down for a holiday soon,” says The Truman Show actor, who has been touched by the country’s diverse culture and rich heritage. But the most exciting thing was the hospitality of Indian people. “I was amazed to see the way they welcomed us. It was really touching,” says Harris, adding that he enjoyed the delicious Indian food the most. “I heard a lot about India till the time I actually got a chance to shoot in Darjeeling. As far as Darjeeling is concerned, it’s a fantastic place to shoot.”
As for the film, Harris feels director Peter Weir knows exactly what he wants from the actors. “Peter was an actor when he was younger and he knows what it takes to do what we do. He communicates well with other actors,” says Harris, who had “dropped some weight” for his role of an American inmate, Mr Smith. “I did some physical labour to get calluses,” he says. The Way Back also stars Colin Farrell, Mark Strong and Dragos Bucur and releases today.
