A jampacked Sarojini Nagar on Sunday saw a flashmob against harassment that took a crowd of 200 by surprise.
Fifty youngsters, including members from the Delhi Drum Circle, flocked to the popular market in the afternoon, and danced to Pink Floyd’s We don’t need no Education and a dhol remix in the act.
The group, a mix of doctors, engineers and students, performed to a total of six songs for 5 minutes.
“I used to do nukkad naataks (street plays), but I feel they’re not as effective anymore, as people don’t have time. The best way is to snatch the time from them, so I thought a flash mob would work best,” said Piyush Acharya, 23, organiser of the act, who said he was inspired by the recent act at Mumbai’s CST station.
The highlight of the performance was the last dance on Sadda Haq, signifying the fight for women’s safety rights.
“We wish that women learn to retaliate instead of keeping quiet about mistreatment,” said Mayank Dhamija, one of the performers.
