Two years ago when it opened, G Spot’s risqué name generated more buzz than anything else, helping it stand out among other nightclubs.
Says proprietor Ashish Sajnani, “People from all over the city would come just to check out what the place was. They were very curious to know why it was named so.” That was then. Now the lounge-bar, situated at Jewel Of Chembur hotel, is called Astrix. So was the name G Spot or Grafenberg Spot too hot to handle for the owner. “No, we just wanted to change the name. Our patrons often ask us why, but every place has a shelf life. So did mine,” adds Ashish.
The rechristening happened a month ago, without much fanfare. The former place used to play only EDM music. But Astrix plays music from every genre, especially Bollywood. States Ashish, “Bollywood music is huge nowadays. Whether it is South Mumbai or Lokhandwala, after one or two drinks, people only want Bollywood songs. We are just catering to them.” The new lounge bar has a distinctly dark feel to it. Everything from the sofas to the décor is black. The owners also felt there was a dearth of starters, and have managed to change that.
