Colourful support to the members of the LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender) community marked the Delhi Queer Pride 2011 as hundreds of people from across the country took to the streets on Sunday.
The candlelight march, from Barakhamba Road to Jantar Mantar, sought the end of discrimination against the community. Placards with hard-hitting slogans, colourful flags and the beats of drums and dholaks set the mood of the parade. Fashion designer Manish Arora, who was seen greeting people and clicking pictures during the parade, said, “I feel so good to be here. It’s so overwhelming to see such a turn out.” The march not only saw participation from adults, but also from children.
The highlight of this edition was the 10-metre long rainbow queer flag, which was unveiled at the commencement of the parade and was carried by the supporters till the end.
Making a comeback
Gandhi caps that made a comeback earlier this year with Anna Hazare’s anti-corruption movement were also a hit at the pride parade on Sunday. The participants of the parade showed off catchy slogans written on them. Seen here is a supporter wearing Gandhi cap bearing the slogan ‘Haan hoon toh?’
