Hollywood star Gerard Butler who is known as a ladies' man has blamed his commitment-phobia on his father.
The 300 star believes that he is scared of committing to women because his father was not around when he was growing up, Contactmusic reported.
Butler was raised by his mother as a single parent after she divorced his father when he was just two years old.
"I act very awkward when I am with women. Perhaps that's because my mother brought me up alone. It is said that men who grow up without a father have a fear of commitment," the website quoted him as saying. The 40-year-old actor also described the reason behind his parents' separation.
"My father gambled away all our money and eventually went bankrupt. So one night our family had to flee head over heels to Canada. At that time my mother was five months pregnant with me. Shortly after my second birthday my father let us down," he said.
Despite his own disrupted childhood, Butler would love to have a family of his own but admits he needs to find the right woman first.
