Hollywood star Scarlett Johansson has come under fire from an American men's magazine after allegedly cancelling plans for a covershoot and leaving bosses searching for a last-minute replacement.

The Lost In Translation star was reportedly set to be named the Best Looking Woman in America by Esquire and had been slated to appear on the front of the publication's recent 'Women We Love' issue.

But she allegedly dropped out of the photoshoot suddenly and magazine editors had to re-jig the poll and handed the title to Mad Men star Christina Hendricks instead, reported New York Daily News.

Esquire editor-in-chief David Granger narrated the situation during a recent magazine conference in Toronto, Canada, telling the audience, "(Johansson was) supposed (to be on the cover). Scarlett completely messed up."

"Scarlett was indeed the first person approached by Esquire to appear on the cover (and was) committed (to the shoot). But things change rather quickly. I think her commitment on Broadway prevented her from making good," said an insider.
