You can put the blame on me, says John, finally. The 38-year-old actor, who recently split with girlfriend of 10 years, actor Bipasha Basu, has broken his silence on the reason behind their breakup.

“We decided on a closure as I didn’t match up to the relationship, I was not ready to commit when the relationship needed culmination,” he said during a TV show recording in Mumbai recently, confessing that he wasn’t ready to enter wedlock with Basu even after all these years of being together, and had “grown out of the relation”.

“I’m probably the reason that this relationship didn’t work,” he admitted on the yet-to-be aired episode of yesteryear actor Simi Garewal’s chat show, India’s Most Desirable. He further said that he thought it was time he let out the real reason and put all speculation to rest.

"The silence lasted too long and I guess it was time (to break it). I’m solely responsible for the split — I did not want to get married."

He also called the breakup an “amicable” one, and said neither he nor Bips were ever disloyal to each other.

“The moment I saw her, I said ‘wow, she’s hot!’, and that was the beginning.” John and Basu first starred together in Jism (2003), and later in Madhoshi (2004) and Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal (2007).
