Angelina Jolie had a traumatic childhood because her mother abandoned her when she was a baby, it has emerged.
The actress’ teenage years and young adulthood were marred by erratic behaviour- drug-use, self-cutting and a volatile love life.
And a biography by Andrew Morton, Angelina: An Unauthorized Biography –has revealed that it all began with a traumatic event in the star's infancy, reports Usmagazine.com.
According to former babysitter Krisann Morel, the actress’ late mother Marcheline Bertrand virtually abandoned Jolie after a painful 1976 split from husband Jon Voight.
Morel also claimed that, for two years, Bertrand sequestered Jolie in a separate apartment in her building, where a revolving staff cared for the young girl.
However, Jolie has publicly declared her devotion to her mother, who passed away in January 2007 of cancer.
But Morton has written that Jolie was permanently scarred by this early abandonment, which led her to self-destructive acts and a "come here, now go away" personality.
