It’s Doomsday today going by the Mayan calendar, and Delhi is all set to embrace it with parties, music, food and revelry. So, while the rest of the world is stocking up on candles and other emergency staples to fight the impending apocalypse, restaurants and pubs in Delhi have organised special DJ nights and are offering plush discounts to celebrate the “last few hours” on earth.
“If the world is coming to an end, we would want to dance the entire night thanking God for making this world so beautiful,” says Akhil Sahni, owner of Qafe Pasha that is hosting a special musical bash tonight, called Century Music. Dancing to the same tune is LAP at Hotel Samrat that’s organising the End of the World party tonight with a special German DJ. “It is time to party like there’s no end,” says Gaurav Batra of LAP. Skooter, the newly-launched nightclub in the same hotel, is also hosting a Dooms Night where DJ Khushi will belt out evergreen Bollywood numbers. “Let’s celebrate the last night, if it is, with some wild fun, and we won’t even have to worry about the morning hangover anymore,” jokes owner Priyank Sukhija. Dooms Day is the name of the party at Club Patio in Gurgaon, where there’ll be a wishing tree for everyone’s ‘aakhri khwahish’ and also a confession box to confess ‘dirty secrets’.
What’s more, many outlets are planning to offer plump discounts on food bills too. So, while Chinese eatery Hao Shi Nian Nian will offer a flat 50% discount on drinks all day long, Pan Asian resto, The Asia Kitchen is inviting foodies to dig into Oriental delicacies at a flat discount of 15% today. “If the world is actually coming to an end, why make money from customers?” asks owner Sanjay Chadha. Italian restaurant Pizzeria Rossa however has a different plan. “Besides today, we will also give ‘we are alive’ discounts tomorrow, if the world does not come to an end,” says owner Rohit Kapoor.
