She may be the Queen of Pop but Madonna does not mind getting her hands dirty with household chores as she steps into the shoes of an Italian housewife for the new Dolce and Gabbana (D&G) campaign. The 51-year-old who survives on a macro-biotic diet in real life, stars in the new advertising campaign for the fashion label in which she washes the dishes, prepares vegetables and even uses her hands to tuck into a bowl of messy pasta.

The campaign, inspired by Italian neorealism cinema, shows the blonde singer playing a homemaker going through her daily chores, reported Daily Mail online. The photographs feature in this month's Vanity Fair Italy, which has a preview of the fashion label's spring/summer 2010 collection.

Designer Stefano Gabbana tells the magazine that Madonna does indeed wash the dishes at home. "Certainly. She's a very practical woman," he said. And he even claims to have seen the star, who has Italian heritage, eat spaghetti."

"Of course and she can allow herself to with all the exercise she does!" he said. The advert is certainly a change from her last campaign, for Louis Vuitton, in which she posed scantily clad on a sofa, with a bag swinging from her foot.
