Marilyn Monroe's chest X-rays fetch $45,000 at Vegas auction

Chest X-rays of American icon Marilyn Monroe, taken on November 10, 1954, fetched $45,000 at an auction in Las Vegas. The X-rays were sold by California-based Auction house Julien's Auctions.

Chest X-rays of American icon Marilyn Monroe fetched $45,000 at an auction in Las Vegas.The X-rays, sold by California-based Auction house Julien's Auctions, were taken on November 10, 1954 during Monroe's visit to a hospital.

Apart from the x-rays, other Monroe items auctioned include a chair used by Marilyn in her final 1962 photo shoot.

Monroe sat on the back of the chair and punctured the upholstery as she rested her high heel on the cushion.

"The bottle of Chanel is a highlight in the auction. When Monroe was asked in 1953 what she wore to bed at night she replied, 'Five drops of Channel No.5'," the auction house said.

A therapy couch that Monroe would lie on during her sessions with analyst Ralph Greenson, personal Pucci clothing gifted to Greenson's daughter as well as handwritten correspondence between the two were also auctioned.

Apart from Monroe property, items that were sold include Christopher Reeve's 'Superman IV' costume, including cape, bodysuit and tights, Mel Gibson's shield, sword and costume from Braveheart, Audrey Hepburn's dress worn in Funny Face and Kate Winslet's earrings from Titanic.
