Ram Gopal Varma’s forthcoming film Not A Love Story, based on the sensational Neeraj Grover murder case, has run into further legal trouble with a small-time film-maker accusing Varma of plagiarism.
After the legal notice sent to Varma by Maria Susairaj, who was convicted in the case, Shareef Ahmed Zuberi, a film-maker, moved the magistrate court on Tuesday claiming that Varma copied his story and “hurriedly made the film and is hurriedly releasing it on August, 19”.
Shareef Ahmed Zuberi filed the case claiming his movie ‘Love Affair’, based on the Neeraj Grover murder case was “70% complete” when he found out that Varma was releasing his film. Zuberi claimed that he registered his film story ‘Love Affair’, with the Film Writers Association, in July 2010.
“That, the plaintiff (Zuberi) could not finish the film till today, as the subject matter i.e. the story of the film was sub-judice, as such, the Plaintiff waited patiently, for the ‘court verdict’ to be delivered,” said Zuberi in his complaint. Further, Zuberi said in his complaint that he incurred expenses to the tune of approximately Rs70 lakh and the film was expected to complete within 45 days.
“The plaintiff suspected foul play of the said defendant-producer Ram Gopal Varma in the making of a similar film made by the Plaintiff,” claimed Zuberi.
