The ‘Candies lane’ in Bandra reclamation has gone through a bit of an overhaul. First, a beer bar called Quench set up shop there, followed by a hookah place called Zaza. Then came the French-Italian restaurant and bar Chez Moi. And now, a new nightspot is readying to launch by the end of July, right next to Quench in a sprawling 1,600 sq ft space.
This just might be Bandra Reclamation’s official ticket into the list of party hubs in Mumbai, which includes Linking Road (Bandra), Juhu, Yari Road (Andheri), Lower Parel and Colaba causeway, which all feature enough options for partygoers.
However, the newest entrant isn’t like the others. Most importantly, it doesn’t have any nightclubs as residential buildings surround it. And that’s exactly what the 22-year-old owner of the lane’s newest bar was looking for. “The fact that it’s away from the main road traffic and doesn’t attract too many people works for the way I want to position this place,” says Lakhan Jethani, who will also have bartending workshops for women on weekends, apart from a Sing star karaoke system and Guitar Hero nights.
Apart from having iPads on each table, the interactive lounge will only accommodate a strict number of people to ensure privacy. “We don’t want to function like a loud bar, which is why we won’t have a DJ.” The cocktail bar will also invite artists to paint in the presence of patrons as part of the programme called Art Meet. “Those paintings will be on sale at affordable prices ranging from R 5,000 to R 6,000. Twenty per cent of the proceeds will be given to charity and 80 per cent, to the artist,” adds Jethani, who wants to use the lounge to promote young and new talent who otherwise may not be able to afford a gallery.
