Cinema buffs may have thronged theatres to see the adventurous Tamil cowboy ‘Quick Gun Murugun’ spearhead an epic battle between vegetarians and non-vegetarians.
But few knew that when the comedy flick was released across India on Friday, a row over denial of credit to the film’s music composer, Sagar Desai, was being settled in the Delhi High Court.
Desai, who had composed music for five songs in the movie — Kyun Keedha Hai Aapko, Ek Tha Murugun, Naam Mera Mango Dolly’and Mind it — had rushed to court on Thursday, shocked by the omission of his name in the cover of cassettes, CDs, DVDs and promo materials of the movie.
Desai realised this at the film’s music launch function at JW Marriott Hotel in Mumbai on August 12.
In a case filed through lawyer Abhishek Malhotra, Desai sued Phat Phish Private Limited, the producers, Sony Music Entertainment Limited which released the cassettes and CDs and Fox Star Studios, the distributors for “infringement of his special and moral rights”.
But an out-of-court settlement was soon reached as per which it “was agreed that Sagar Desai deserves due credit”.
The terms of settlement submitted before Justice Manmohan Singh said: All theatrical prints, film’s website, cassettes, CDs and VCDs will give due credit to Desai.
