Last year, tennis star Sania Mirza got married to Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik amid huge media drama. Soon, Bollywood too got excited about the brouhaha. And a few days later, TV actor Debina Bonnerjee, who played Sita in Imagine TV’s Ramayan, was signed on to play Sania in Hyderabadi Damaad, a film based on the controversy. However, Debina now claims that she has pulled out of the film.
But Sania isn’t amused. Currently, on tour at the US Open, she says, “Firstly, my marriage with Shoaib is not an episode. It is my life. And secondly, very few people know the truth (about the marriage). So, I don’t think anyone can make a film on a subject without knowing the complete facts.”
Although Sania admits to "having lots of friends in the film industry", inspiring movies or acting is not on her list. But of late, she has been bonding with the Dabangg girl Sonakshi Sinha. In fact, the young actor even travelled to London in June to watch Sania play at the Wimbledon. "I think Sonakshi is a cool and fun girl, and I think that’s why we get along really well. I’ll be happy to have her come for any of my tournaments, whenever she wants," adds the 24-year-old player, who last watched Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara and Chillar Party.
Besides tennis and Bollywood, what Sania is ecstatic about is Shoaib’s comeback to the Pakistan cricket team. And immediately after making the cut, Shoaib claimed that Sania helped him a lot. The all-rounder states that since she’s been playing international tennis for the past 12 years, her advice was invaluable.

{{/usCountry}}“I did what every wife would do for a husband. He too has helped me in many ways,” says Sania. But the Hyderabad girl, now based in Dubai, doesn’t have any plans to shift back to India or move to Pakistan. “Right now, we both are happy with our lives, except for the fact that I don’t get to spend enough time with my husband because of our constant travelling,” says Sania.
