Mughal Gardens — the perfectly manicured lawns inside the Rashtrapati Bhavan — were opened to the public recently and among other visitors this year, there has been a lot of young crowd coming in too.
“Apart from the flowers in full bloom, we also get to to see the Rashtrapati Bhavan from inside,” says Ruchika Singh, 18, a student of Shri Venkateshwara College.
Mughal Gardens have become a hot hang out spot for many youngsters. “We always hang out at cinema halls or a mall, but this place is a pleasant change,” says Megha Singh, 21. The 65 varieties of seasonal plants available at the garden are in full bloom around this time. The garden sees an average footfall of 30,000 visitors on weekdays and about 70,000 visitors on weekends.
“Usually tourists and groups from schools visit the gardens. But now, college-goers have been visiting the gardens too,” says Nigam Prakash, OSD, Horticulture at the gardens. Near the spiritual garden section, there is a special curio shop. You can pick the T-shirt with the logo “I am proud to visit Rashtrapati Bhavan” for Rs. 300.
