Long before he became a vampire portraying heartthrob Edward Cullen in the Twilight saga, actor Robert Pattinson had auditioned for the lead role in a British film about public sex.

The 23-year-old British actor had failed to grab a role in the romantic comedy Dogging: A Love Story, which releases in Britain on Christmas day, in favour of a rival hunk.

In the film, directed by Simon Ellis, Luke Treadaway stars as a Newcastle-based journalist who casts aside his inhibitions to research the UK’s outdoor sex scene, only to fall in love with a girl he meets in a car park, the Daily Star reported.

“It’s all a bit surreal, to be honest. Pattinson is a massive Hollywood star. But two years ago, he was still trying to make a name for himself back in the UK. He had a decent role in Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire [he plays Cedric Diggory] but apart from that, he was still casting around for roles,” a source said.
