The Speechwriter is a fictional documentary showing the life of a retired political speech writer while Name, Class, Subject is inspired from exercise books used in government schools in Pakistan, inspired by the artist's childhood. There's reason to cheer for feminists. Zubaan, the independent non-profit publishing house, will host a brand new monthly series called Zubaan Talkies starting this Thursday. The idea is to create an exchange of ideas related to feminist thought through film screenings, slideshows of photography, open-mic sessions, performance art etc. The first take, called Writing the Self, will feature readings of excerpts from first-person accounts by writers such as Rashsundari Devi, Binodini Dasi, Kamala Das, Sister Jesme, and others.
