The USA has no king and queen, but this Saturday, the republic will see the closest thing it can get to a royal wedding. Chelsea, the 30-year-old daughter of former President Bill Clinton and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, will marry long-term boyfriend Marc Mezvinsky, 32, in Rhinebeck, an upstate New York town.
The wedding details are more secretive than the Pentagon’s classified documents on Afghanistan. All hotel rooms in the town have been booked, but local residents are not willing to share any details. Two Norwegian photographers were arrested for snooping around Astor Courts estate, the wedding site. Only 400 guests have been invited, but President Obama is not expected to attend. Some reports suggest that singer Barbra Streisand, talk show host Oprah Winfrey and film director Steven Spielberg have also been invited.
Chelsea is likely to wear a wedding gown designed by Oscar de la Renta. It is not clear if a Methodist priest or a Jewish rabbi will facilitate the vows. Her fiancée, an investment banker, is a Jew. His father has served time in jail for fraud.
