Ever since Vijay Mallya’s Kingfisher Airlines ran into crisis, the company has become a subject of constant mockery.
A 23-year-old flight attendant, Roshini Sharma (name changed for privacy), shares her plight: “We have become the butt of jokes in the airport and among friends and family. Me and my colleagues are faced with comments such as Band ho gayee teri Company, and it feels horrible. We can’t even join other airlines as they’ve signed internal pacts with other airlines to not hire Kingfisher employees."
"People are joking about us on Twitter, Facebook, on the streets, everywhere. The work atmosphere has been really bad. I remember instances when there weren’t enough meals for the passengers, and no refreshments such as juices and cookies. It became a bit awkward to inform passengers that we are out of stock. Once, when we could not provide headsets to our passengers, they mocked at us asking if it is a consequence of the financial crisis and whether the airline is shutting shop. We were angry as it wasn’t our fault, but had to stay silent," she added.
"It’s not fun to be in the business as many youngsters think it is. Our salaries don’t come on time; in fact a friend of mine, an in-flight bartender, has been waiting for his salary for the past three months. We don’t know when this horror will be over ... if only people could be a little kind,” she concluded.
