Time weighs most on people who have it the least. The deadline to submit this article is just an hour away and I must admit I have no idea what to write about.
The pressure of time running out makes your head spin like a crazy ball jumping all over the floor. You try to catch the ball and the moment you feel you almost have it, it spins out of your hand in another direction. My thoughts right now are like 10 crazy balls spinning in different directions!
What idea do I zero down to, to write this article? The going gets difficult as the sand in the hourglass shifts downwards, indicating that I am running out of time. So I decide to do what millions do in times of crisis: I fold my hands, shut my eyes, and say ‘God help me. Just show me one sign’.
I open my eyes to a knock on the door and my morning ritual is placed in front of me, a set of 20 newspapers. This has to be a sign. On closer scrutiny, it looks more like a hoarding shouting at me. Help your self. I start scanning the papers in the hope of finding an issue to write upon. Most of them have similar stories, thankfully written differently. The women’s reservation bill (still trying to find consensus); civic issues (resolve one and another one comes up, a never ending process); the IPL (race for top four); the Sania-Shoaib marriage (controversy of the day); the sensex (will it cross 18000?); Jaane Kahan Se Aayi Hai (my film releasing this Friday, better go and watch it); an apartment in Mumbai sold at 1 lac/sq.ft. (someone is really rich in the city); save the Tiger (that’s what Wood’s PR is working on); blame the Tiger (that’s what Wood’s ex wife’s attorney is working on).
By the end, my head has again become a playground for crazy balls as I like not one but all 20 topics! After trying very hard, I am still unable to catch a single ball. If ideas were cricket balls, I would’ve definitely caught one, but the prefix ‘crazy’ makes it a difficult catch. Am back to square one: What idea do I zero down to, to write this article? TIME UP! I see that the last grain of sand in the hourglass drop down to leave the upper compartment empty. I guess I will have to submit a blank page today.
