He once strolled around Sector 29 complex in Noida, as neighbours gawked in awe. Not anymore. Actor Shiney Ahuja is no more the evasive celebrity everyone waited to spot in Churchview Apartments. In fact, on Monday night when he visited the Sector 20 police station to mark his attendance, the cops on duty didn't recognise him and referred to him as a 'gora' (foreigner) among themselves.
A cop at the police station told HT City, "He came with his father-in-law at around 8.30 pm. We've seen him, but the constables on duty couldn't recognise him and thought he was some foreigner. They realised it was Shiney only when he signed the register. He looked blank, but shook hands with us while leaving. All he spoke was, 'Ek hafte baad phir aaunga?' (I will return next week)."
Shiney, who returned to Mumbai on Wednesday, has left his neighbours disappointed, yet bemused. Gaurav Singh, a DU graduate who lives near Shiney's house, said, "There are lots of press vans outside our gate. He hasn't stepped out of his house once. I had seen him before his arrest and everyone liked him. Now, there is a stigma around him here."
Rishi Lakhanpal, 21, said, "I live a few meters away, we've seen him taking walks with his wife around here earlier. Now we don't see anyone from the family. And everyone is making fun of him, telling their maids to be careful." Student Rishabh Singh, who stays in the vicinity said, "I've met Shiney many times earlier and also clicked pictures with him. But now he doesn't come out. I wouldn't want to be clicked with him either."
