Talking about his next directorial venture, City of Gold, which is the first of three films he’s signed on for with DAR Media, Manjrekar says, “The film will focus on the plight of Mumbai’s mill workers and how nothing is being done to change that.”

As for comparisons with his earlier hit, Vaastav, he says, “This is a more stimulating film than Vaastav. The script is far superior.”

Asked why he chose theater actors instead of big names for the film, he clarifies, “With the advent of multiplexes, the audiences coming in are not bothered by who’s in the film. We need not run after stars. For example, both Blue and Do Knot Disturb flopped.”
