On Saturday, the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) team owner sought exemption from personal appearance in a Jaipur court and expressed willingness to pay the fine.

The additional chief metropolitan magistrate's court had issued summons to Khan on April 26. Khan was directed to be present during Saturday's hearing of a petition regarding April 8 incident of him smoking at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium during an IPL match between KKR and Rajasthan Royals.

Anand Singh Rathore, who runs the Jaipur Cricket Academy, had sought action against Khan - citing the law prohibiting smoking in public.

Khan's counsel Vivek Raj Bajwa represented him in the court and contended that the offence was "petty". Bajwa said Khan was ready to plead guilty and pay the Rs 100 fine.

The court exempted Khan from personal attendance and fixed June 21 as the next date of hearing. The complainant's lawyer, Nem Singh, will file a reply on that date. Khan is not required to be present for the next hearing.
