April Fool’s day saw Bollywood falling prey to a rather ‘taxing’ prank on Twitter. On Saturday, many celebs were urged by the handle ‘@it_dept_in’ to retweet their plea to people to pay taxes as it was the last day to do so. The account was in the name of ‘Income Tax Department’, complete with the National Emblem. "We are looking for celebrities who can help spread the word that today is the last day for tax submissions. Please Retweet," said
one of the tweets. So, the A-listers, including actors Abhishek Bachchan, Dia Mirza, Preity Zinta and filmmaker Shekhar Kapur, did as they were told. The handle also tweeted to actors saying they wanted brand ambassadors for their new ‘Twitter Aay Kar Suvidha’.
It was only hours later, when the display picture on the account was changed from the National Emblem to ‘April Fools’, that the celebs realised that they’d been fooled and that the account was fake. “This is NOT an Income Tax dept account. Happy April Fools day to all followers and Retweeters ;-),” read the clarification. The account, which is still active, had 577 followers and 152 tweets at last count.
