I can write about a lot of things happening in my life these days, which would make for more than an interesting read. But I’ll give that a pass this week and write about something I’ve been dilly-dallying to write about for a while.
One night last week, I couldn’t sleep. Something was nagging me. So I got up at 3:30 am, switched on my comp, cracked my knuckles and started. There were 183 unread messages in my Facebook inbox. Mails from you guys I hadn’t replied to since the past couple of months. It was bugging the hell out of me as each day passed.
So I started, and by 5:20 am, 86 messages were left and I was still glued to the chair without a break or any hint of sleep. By 8 am when I finished replying to each and everyone, I realised I’m one lucky guy. Earlier I used to be quick with my replies, so it never occurred to me, but this time the sheer volume of mails, which I dealt with at once, hit me.
The love, respect and affection, which you guys showered on me in your mails, had blown away every fuse in my nervous system and I was no longer in my senses. I couldn’t believe that I’d made such an impact on people. There were mails as long as my article, those were the difficult ones to get back to! Then there were those that said that I’m their inspiration so I should never stop writing, there were ones, which told me that I shoo off their Monday morning blues and I bring a smile on Monday mornings. There was a girl who said that she used to fight with her dad every Monday for the paper, and after she made him read it too, he was delighted too and now they both discuss me whenever they sit for a chat. There were also a few moms who read me before their children and

There were people who joined Facebook just for me, some who follow me because they find my writing style peculiar, some who started writing after I asked them to and send me their articles to edit, others who think I should write a book, a few who just can’t believe I’m a real guy and even fewer who follow me because they think my side profile is hot.
I’m an unknown guy, so this was overwhelming. Thank you for making me feel special. I hope I keep getting better from now on. On a similar note, I wonder what kind of mails these celebrity columnists get. They write because they are famous. I write because I’m not famous. Just a thought.
