My trips back home have been few. I used to perceive them as ‘speed breakers’ in my journey. But this time, the weight of the issue that brings me back home, my mom’s health, has made me look at the trip as a pit stop.
It’s been a week at the hospital, monitoring insulin spikes, food intake and being on the phone. I'm taking my job as nurse-cum-driver seriously, and feel like a responsible person, having earned back my mum’s trust and her car keys! It wasn’t too long ago when I made my presence felt on my mom’s new car and her wallet with a scratch along both door panels, which required them to be changed.
Mind the gap
While running an errand once, I felt a sudden drop in gravity when parking the car. Time stood still in that unsure moment as I felt the vehicle tilting forward. My friend in the front seat got out to discover that we had entered one wheel into a massive manhole! While I dodged a dent and a lecture from mom, I should probably be thanking the car-maker for the strong bumper fibre and those 20 men who lifted my car. The benefits of being a girl!
The same friend, a sales executive, told me about all the deals she’s clinched thanks to being female. A female voice has the make-you-melt quality that makes a man oblige. I always get a waiver on my DVD fine, or that extra baggage allowance at the airport. Whether it was getting sponsors for college plays, a job or even hitching a taxi, being female makes life much easier. We even got off the Titanic first! Think about it! I might never have personally never used the weapon of charm, but in my opinion, I guess there’s no harm.
