Here’s how to look party-ready for any scenario
Brunch
Winter afternoon sipping sangrias is a great idea. Just keep your hair and make-up day-appropriate and fresh. Think crown and Dutch braids, or tie your hair into an exaggerated side braid. If you have longer and thicker hair, go the whole hog and create a big braided crown for a more romantic look. Keep your make-up dewy and soft with a pop of blush and a soft, matte lip colour.
Quick fix: The reverse braid is your go-to solution for a voluminous look.
Pub night
Planning to dance the night away? Go the glamorous way. Tong your hair into anything from tight curls to bigger, softer curls and leave it open. Go with shimmer eyelids and a bold lip colour to complete the look. Look every bit the diva as you ring in the new year.
Quick fix: Make sure you blot your lipstick two or three times before the final application with a tissue to ensure it lasts all night long without touch-up.
Out-of-town gig
Think practical-yet-stylish. Section your hair (get creative about it) and do thin braids. Avoid heavy make-up, which tends to streak when outdoors. Instead, go bold with graphic-coloured eyeliner.
Quick fix: Want to unleash your wilder, hipster side? Carry a pack of stick-on Swarovski bindis to create the embellished eye look (a la Rodarte) and amp up your look in seconds at the venue.
House party
You’re with your closest gang of buddies, so it’s a lot more relaxed than any outdoor affair. Simply use your blow-drier to create a maximised blow out that makes your hair look voluminous and natural. Start early with the New Year resolutions, and try something new: be it a winged liner or a deep lip colour. Experiment. Your friends won’t judge.
Quick fix: When blow-drying your hair, flip your hair over, and try drying it upside down for a more volume.
Yacht party
Light, easy make-up, and barely styled hair is the way to go. Humid conditions are not conducive to too much product, or heavily styled hair. Work with your natural hair texture instead. You can choose to simply twist hair away from your face for a softer look. Or, go the no-make-up make-up route (nude lipstick, light blush and a touch of foundation cream) to complete the look.
Quick fix: Spray a good amount of make-up-setting spray to help it last through the party.
