So you think that Carrie Bradshaw is God’s gift to fashion? Or wish you had a party wardrobe like Samantha Jones? As Sex And The City 2 hits the city’s silver screens, we get our fashion experts to break down the characters’ wardrobes and pick their Bollywood counterparts.

Miranda Hobbes
We forced fashion expert Bandana Tiwari to dissect Miranda Hobbes, usually considered the most boring of the four characters.

“She is the most plain of the four,” she says, “But she is the consummate businesswoman, always dressed in tailored suits and structured clothing.”

Her pick for a Miranda alter ego? “Tabu, but only because of her mannerisms,” she reveals. Tiwari suggests picking crisp white shirts with minimal detailing for a corporate look, paired with neutral colours like camel or black.

If you’re the spectacle-wearing sort, Tiwari recommends wearing interesting frames like tortoise shell or mother of pearl, but warns not to try anything too cuckoo.

She adds,“Like any other working woman, she needs a large carry-all bag which can fit her whole world. But she can carry an envelope bag or a small clutch inside if she wants to party later.”

Carrie Bradshaw
According to fashion stylist, Shayal Sheth, Carrie Bradshaw’s whimsical style finds an echo in Kangana Ranaut’s wardrobe. “She is one actress in Bollywood who can pull off any look, no matter how weird. She’s very experimental and has the right body for it too, not to mention the same curly hair,” says Sheth.

A Carrie wardrobe must-have? “A big statement piece,” mentions Sheth. “You’ll always see her wearing an oversize hat or a large floral brooch. She picks one really loud piece that ties together her whole outfit. She especially likes voluminous skirts.”

While Sheth thinks that the lead character’s wardrobe follows a hit or miss philosophy, she says, “Whatever she wears, it’s always memorable.”

Samantha Jones
Stylist Natasha Chib picks Bipasha Basu as the alter ego of siren, Samantha Jones. “Samantha’s always wearing lowcut dresses that are body hugging, which are also very trendy this season,” she reveals. “Bipasha also likes her short dresses and killer heels.”

According to Chib, a Samantha lookalike would copy the character’s fetish for big earrings. “You’ll see her wearing bold earrings often. The shape of her face and haircut compliment this style.” A trend you could try out: body conscious dresses with flesh-revealing cutouts.

Charlotte York
Rocky S votes for Sussanne Roshan as the Charlotte York lookalike. “That character is the picture of feminine grace and that’s exactly what I see in Sussanne. She’s very dignified and handles her career and family easily, while she parties and has fun,” he admits.

While he’s insistent that the clothes only go with the character, he does have a few recommendations for those interested in Charlotte’s wardrobe.

“You see her wearing a lot of pencil skirts and matching accessories,” he points out. “She loves matching her shoes to her bag and everything is perfectly colour co-ordinated. It always looks like she’s decided what to wear, hours in advance. Feminine detailing like frills or a brooch complete the look.”
