From bringing out your man’s most helpful side, to making you look glam, here’s how to rock your heels. From adding an instant glam factor to your outfits to becoming a perennial muse for many a desi kalakaars— there’s always a good reason to slip your feet into a pair of high heels.
But if a recent study is to be believed, there’s another reason why you must wear that six-inched footwear! According to a research, women wearing high heels inspire a man to be more helpful. “Women’s shoe heel-size exerts a powerful effect on men’s behaviour,” says study author Nicholas Guéguen of the Université de Bretagne-Sud in France. His study reveals men’s age-old penchant for attractive physical attributes. Call it the damsel-in- distress syndrome, but the study also revealed that men are more likely to help out a woman in towering high heels.
The study observed the responses of 90 male participants between the ages of 25 and 50 who had been randomly selected. They were then asked to complete a survey by a woman, who was once in flat shoes measuring 0.5 cm, once wearing shoes whose heel height measured 5 cm and once again wearing heels that measured 9 cm. The results indicate that people’s responsiveness doubled between the lowest and highest heel heights. Approximately 180 men and 180 women responded when four young women of the same height, weight and shoe-size dropped a glove on three occasions distinguishable by the height of the heels they wore. The female participants didn’t respond differently, but men’s readiness to help augmented by one third from the flat shoes to the 9 cm shoes. In fact, they began talking to the sole female confederate who helped in conducting this experiment when she was wearing high heels within seven minutes, whereas it took them 13 minutes to approach her when she was wearing flats.
Be it the change in gait brought about by high heels or the demure appearance of the foot when wearing such shoes, it is time to bring out your snazziest footwear with the highest heel. Despite bringing out the most helpful side in people and making you look glamorous, if you are still doubtful about rocking those towering heels, take a look at the below-mentioned tips to strut like a diva.
Here’s how to strut like a diva
Glam up your gait: Wearing heels is not the same as strolling in sneakers. So, keep your head and spine straight and use your hips to shift and lift your legs to the centre with each step you take.
Go up a size: Go half a size up when shopping for heels or go shoe-shopping at the end of the day when your feet are swollen from activity for a comfortable fit.
Pick your poison: From wedge heels to elevated platform heels, choose the style you are most comfortable in.
Minimise your steps: High heels tend to shorten your stride a bit. So, don’t take giant strides and stick to small, dainty steps to be comfortable.
Follow the heel-toe routine: Walk by putting your foot’s heel on the ground first and then your toes. Once your weight is on the balls of your feet, shift your weight forward as if you’re walking on your tip toes. Practice this to ace it!
