Will you rock a DOP (dresses-over-pants)?
The very 90's dress-over-pants trend has made a comeback. Go for the sexy and bold combo to look different.fashion and trends Updated: Sep 30, 2012 01:17 IST
Last year, many fashion forward celebs rocked the quirky SOD (skirts-over-dresses) trend, and now, it’s the dress’ turn to go over the pants! Let’s call the style ‘DOP’ (dresses-over-pants) for all fashionable purposes. British actor Emma Watson rocked the very 90s trend as she attended the premiere of The Perks of Being a Wallflower in London on Wednesday. Watson wore a flared strapless cocktail Christian Dior Couture dress over straight black trousers, accessorising her look with pointy-toed black Dior pumps and a cute Tiffany & Co keys heart pendant necklace.
The trend was a big hit on the international ramp this season, with designers such as Chris Benz and Diane Von Furstenberg including it in their spring collections.
New York based designer Prabal Gurung says the dress-over-pants trend is here to stay. “It’s going to get even bigger next year. It’s a must-try for all fashionable women,” he says.
Closer home, designers say it’s a hot look, and can be made a lot of fun with a bit of fashion intelligence. “It’s a young, sexy look, perfect for someone who’s not really game for showing off legs,” says designer Rina Dhaka. Dhaka suggests teaming shorter anarkalis with pants, or little bandeau dress or those with asymmetrical hemlines with capris.
To throw in a little evening touch, you could pick an off-shoulder dress and team it with narrow pants. “Pairing floral dresses with denims could also be interesting,” says designer Kapil Arora.
Not for the faint hearted
Sarah McLachlan is the ultimate dress-over-pants girl. The Canadian musician and Grammy artist wears dresses over loose pants, leggings and pajamas. She teamed up a little white dress with loose silver pants as she kicked off her North American symphonic tour in June in Toronto.
Dress up your pants
For those who are not very tall, slim fitted cigarette trousers work best, while taller women can go for slightly flared pants
Team a monochromatic A-line dress with your pants if you want to play it safe. For a bolder look, opt for a tube dress
Go for pointed heels with this look.
Go low on the bling and opt for dainty accessories: solitaire ear studs, a thin bracelet or rings.
