“As it will take a few days to repair the vending machine, the bank has decided to ensure that cash is dispensed by officials inside the kiosk,” Satish Parnami, branch manager, said. The reason for the delay in repair of ATM machines, said Paranami, is that most of the staff is engaged in recalibrating machines.

Bank sources said residents will get relief by the weekend as more ATM machines are being recalibrated to dispense the new currency notes.

Lack of cash in the majority of bank branches in Sector 14, including the OBC branch, left customers frustrated. An official said that one reason for cash crunch was that Gurgaon banks were also feeding cash to adjacent districts such as Faridabad, Rewari and Mewat.

A large number of cash trays have arrived in the city, which will replace the existing trays that catered to the size of demonetised ₹500, ₹1,000 notes. “We have started replacing the trays and the vending machines should start dispensing new notes by end of this week,” an official said.
