A series of events engaging the women were held across the city, beginning with the internationally acclaimed wrestlers Geeta Phogat and Babita Phogat addressing women audience at a function held by Ericsson India.

“No single day should be reserved for celebrating Women’s Day, rather we should progress and create an environment where every day should be a women’s day,” said Geeta Phogat.

The Phogat sisters interacted with women at the event, hosted with a broad theme “Be Bold for Change”, and shared their real life experiences of overcoming obstacles to make a mark in a conventionally male-dominated sport.

Another event, She Who Made a Difference, was organised by Gurgaon First and Artemis Hospital. They recognised the contribution and lauded the good work of city women who have demonstrated courage and conviction in pursuing their work, thus creating a unique niche for themselves and bringing about social change.

In another event organised at Sohna Road, women from several RWA’s participated and took part in quiz rounds. “It’s a tough world, but there is no limit to what we as women can achieve,” said Liberatha Kallat, managing director, DreamFolks.

Amity University, Manesar, and KR Mangalam University, Gurgaon, also celebrated the occasion. Former bureaucrat Snehlata Kumari and ACP Tanya Singh interacted with the students. The students were briefed on the laws and rights related to women safety and empowerment.

A two-hour self-defense workshop was organised for the university students by Sanshinkan Institute, where they were taught basic techniques on self defense.

“Women have the more mental strength than men. We must all make the efforts to change the definition of independence; this will help in reducing the gender discrimination. More importantly, be the change you wish to see in the world,” said Tanya Singh.
