Gurgaon admin to educate children on ‘good touch, bad touch’

The safety awareness programme aims at educating children from the primary wing to class 7 on vulnerabilities and threats that exist around them. The programme will educate the children about the difference between a safe and unsafe touch.

The district administration has prepared a list of schools and will send emails and letters to principals to organise a camp in January in their respective schools.

The drive will kick off from the second week of January and will go on for four months to reach out to all schools.

“Cases of child sexual abuse, reported to the Child Welfare Committee, show a lack of awareness among the children who fail to differentiate a good touch from a bad one, especially from their dear ones. There are increasing cases in which the children were sexually harassed because they did not know the difference between a good touch and a bad touch. This campaign will sensitise children about it,” said Vinay Pratap Singh, additional deputy commissioner.

“The children should know when to say ‘no’ to a bad touch and immediately report the matter to their family members or teachers. The student should have the confidence in teachers so that if any such incident takes place, they can confide in them,” Singh said.

The objective of the district administration is to minimise the cases of sexual harassment against children that are rising in the district.
