Gurgaon: Man opens fire at Harish Bakery, bullet grazes past cashier

A man, suspected to be the henchman of a jailed gangster, fired upon the cashier of a prominent bakery in Sector 4/7 chowk on Old Railway Road before fleeing the spot on Wednesday afternoon.

Before shotting at him, he handed over a written note demanding that the cashier pay protection money of ₹50 lakh, police said. The note was allegedly in the name of a notorious gangster who is currently housed in Jhajjar jail.

The incident happened around 3 pm at Harish Bakery and the cashier had a narrow escape as the bullet only grazed his hand, police said. A case has been registered and crime branch officials are investigating the matter.

According to police, cashier Raj Kishore was sitting at his counter when a man wearing a blue jacket and jeans came to the shop and stood near the counter.

The suspect stood there for sometime and after a while, he handed over a note Kishore demanding that he pay him protection money of Rs 50 lakh. When the cashier was returning the slip, he whipped out a firearm and fired at Kishore, police said.

The note thrown by the accused stated that the owners should either meet him in the Gurgaon court or in Jhajjar jail and make arrangements for the payment of Rs 50 lakh, else they will all be killed. The note was in the name of jailed gangster Ashok Rathi, who was recently shifted to Jhajjar jail.

Sumit Kuhar, DCP (crime), said the incident could be the handiwork of Rathi as he had been recently shifted to Jhajjar jail. He said it could be a ploy for him to return to Bhondsi jail in Gurgaon. The matter is being investigated, the DCP said.
