Gurgaon police to set up a picket outside Essel Tower gate

On the request of residents, the Gurgaon police has decided to set up a police picket near the entry and exit gates of the condominium to ensure safety and security of residents.

Worried by the ruckus at the Pilot Court of Essel Towers, an upscale condominium on MG Road, the residents’ welfare association (RWA )has requested the police to clamp down on “unruly activities”.

On the request of residents, the Gurgaon police has decided to set up a police picket near the entry and exit gates of the condominium to ensure safety and security of residents.

Two police personnel will be deployed from 7pm to 7am at the picket to keep a check on the movement of visitors and will ensure that all visitors show their identity cards before entering the society.

According to the police, parking was also a major issue as the complex has only six visitor parking spaces are available and people usually park wherever they find space. This often led to altercations between visitors and residents.

ACP (Sadar) Anil Kumar said, “The matter has been resolved between the RWA members and the residents. Both have agreed to the terms that the visitors will have to provide identity cards before entering at night and it will be recorded in the registers. Proper frisking will be conducted and no one will be allowed to do any act which can bother residents, including playing loud music.”

The rift between apartment owners and tenants had escalated after the RWA members prevented guests of the opposite sex from visiting tenants. There was a verbal altercation and the tenants were allegedly abused.

The tenants have alleged that the RWA members are discriminating against them. They said the new rules of preventing guests of the tenants from entering the building between 10pm and 8am should be applicable to everyone and not just on them.

In April, the Essel Towers’ Pilot Court RWA had decided to stop guests of single tenants and that had led to a tussle between residents and tenants. After the incident last week, the RWA members had sought help from the Gurgaon deputy commissioner and police.

The police picket will be set up within a week and things will be streamlined, the police said.

Captain (retired) SP Sinha, Pilot Court RWA member, said he is not willing to share any information.

When contacted, the tenants said the issue has been resolved and refused further comment.
